Order Your Three Free Annual Credit Reports the Easy Way By Greg Tredan

Due to the FCRA or Fair Credit Reporting Act you are now allowed to get all three of your credit reports for free once a year. Are you confused because you did not know there were three credit reports? You can get one from Experian, Equifax, and Transunion once a year. These are the three credit agencies that put together the reports that are used to approve you for loans, credit cards, cell phones, and anything else involving credit. There are many websites that offer free credit reports as well, but you have to understand that you are also getting a free 30 day trial of their monitoring service. As long as you cancel the service you will not be charged and you get to keep your credit report.

However, if you do not want to try their credit monitoring service, which does have many benefits, then you can also get all three of your annual credit reports for free by calling 1-877-322-8228 or you can make a request by mail. Either way is fine and you will get the same information regardless. You can mail them at P.O. Box 105281 Atlanta, GA 30348.

Now that you know how to get your free report, you should also know how to use it. There are a few basic things you need to know.

First, there is a section for all the debts that you have that are not from the government or you have not been sued over. These debts are divided into two groups, one being the ones you have paid on time and the other being past due, collections, and anything you have not paid on time.

Next, there is a category for judgments. This is basically any debt you have not paid that you got sued over. These really hurt your credit and you should get them cleared and dealt with as soon as possible.

There is also a section for inquiries, bank accounts, employment, and your address and past addresses. The inquiries will hurt you if you have too many of them, but they go away within 90 days. This is usually the portion of the report that will show if you filed bankruptcy as well.

After you get your annual credit reports you will have an idea of how to put together a plan to help your credit score grow. If you need help there are plenty of credit counseling agencies out there that will be happy to help you.
